How It Works - the Magic of the Umbrella Effect

What is the "Umbrella Effect?" Decades of rigorous scientific research has proven the case beyond a shadow of a doubt. It goes like this: you step out of the house in the morning, glance up at the sky and think "... hmmm.... it looks like it could rain today, better grab my umbrella."  Know what happens next? That's right - it doesn't rain. Why not? Because you took your umbrella. The Umbrella Effect worked again - your umbrella warded off the evil rain spirits.

How this Voucher works - the technical stuff behind the magic

If the registered owner of a Voucher receives a qualifying speeding ticket during the validity period of the voucher, Prepaid Traffic Tickets, LLC will issue a check, up to the value of the voucher, to help pay the related fine.

Example: Joe buys himself a $100 Speeding Ticket Voucher on July 1 for his birthday. The Voucher is valid for 6 months, so it's good until December 31. Joe gets a speeding ticket in September, with a fine of $125. Joe redeems the Voucher, and gets a check for the $100, covering the other $25 from his own pocket.

Vouchers can be purchased at www.prepaidtraffictickets.com.

Vouchers that are "Not Yet Activated"

If you have a pre-printed voucher that is marked "Not Yet Activated," it can be Activated by clicking the link on the home page.

Delivery of Vouchers

Once purchased or activated, vouchers are delivered via email as "pdf" files. You can store a pdf file on your computer or print it on any printer you choose.

Age requirement - must be 18 or older

The buyer and the registered owner must both be 18 or older. No exceptions.

Qualifying Traffic Citations

If your Voucher states that it is for speeding tickets, then it is redeemable for speeding tickets only. Some vouchers are redeemable for any type of "moving" violation, including tickets for speeding, failing to fully stop at a stop sign, going through a red light, improper turns, improper passing, and other violations commonly known as "moving" violations.

In both cases, Traffic Citations that do not qualify for redemption are citations for what are commonly known as "non-moving" violations, such as:

  • parking tickets
  • lack of valid insurance, lack of valid vehicle registration
  • unsafe equipment
  • not wearing a motorcycle helmet

and others in the non-moving violation category.

***** Vouchers are not redeemable for any citations for which the Voucher owner is charged with a criminal act, such as drinking and driving *****

Redeeming an Activated Voucher

You will need to provide the Voucher serial number and the details about the citation on www.prepaidtraffictickets.com. We will verify the information provided, and if the ticket qualifies, we will issue a check, as follows:

  • if the amount of the ticket is higher than the Voucher value, the check will be for the Voucher value.

Example: Joe has a $100 voucher and gets a ticket for $150. PTT will issue a check for $100, the value of the voucher.
  • if the amount of the ticket is less than the Voucher value, the check will be for the amount of the ticket. Any excess will be applied as a credit in the event of a future ticket during the validity period of the Voucher, or it can be used, during the Voucher validity period, as a credit toward the purchase of another Voucher.

Example: Maria has a $100 voucher and gets a ticket for $75. PTT will issue a check for $75, and retain a credit on Maria's account for the remaining $25, through the validity period of the original voucher. Maria can apply the $25 toward the purchase of another voucher, or, if she gets another ticket during the original validity period, PTT would issue a check for the $25.
